A useful fit for

Regular home sewing plus motorized-hoop embroidery, especially for a maker who will use the Yaya-associated design collection, included Creator software or eight additional presser feet.

The main tradeoff

The software and expanded feet package is the edition's practical distinction, but using embroidery still involves the separate 3.65 kg module, hooping and stabilizing material; the largest included hoop is 260 × 160 mm and the reviewed sources do not establish wireless transfer.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can one machine support ordinary garment sewing and motorized-hoop embroidery, when I am willing to change setups?

Yes. Sewing uses the machine with the embroidery module removed; embroidery attaches the module and a suitable hoop. They are separate operating arrangements.

Must the exact model package include the Yaya Han edition's Creator software and additional presser-foot set?

The Yaya Han Edition page and brochure list BERNINA Embroidery Software 9 Creator and eight additional Yaya Han presser feet. Require this only if those edition extras matter to your projects.

Will the largest included hoop fit a design that needs at least 250 mm of embroidery length?

The large included hoop is 160 × 260 mm and the stated maximum area is 260 × 160 mm. It satisfies a 250 mm length requirement, but not 270 mm.

The bernette 79 Yaya Han Edition is a computerized home sewing-and-embroidery combination for someone who expects to sew and embroider, not just admire its distinctive finish. Its distinguishing purchase bundle is unusually concrete: 276 built-in embroidery designs, an included BERNINA Embroidery Software 9 Creator package, three hoops, and a separate set of eight additional presser feet. This is an assessment of the exact current U.S. edition and its linked manual, not a hands-on performance test.

Decide whether the Yaya-specific bundle is useful to you

The central difference is the package, not a different kind of stitching mechanism. The edition includes 276 embroidery designs. The manufacturer brochure describes 68 Yaya Han-associated designs, comprising 64 selected by her and four motifs she designed. It also lists BERNINA Embroidery Software 9 Creator. The manufacturer describes that software as a way to create and alter embroidery designs, including auto-digitizing artwork, with tutorials. That can matter to a costume maker who wants to move from an existing library toward personal motifs; it adds little if your plans stop at occasional repairs or ready-made stitches.

The exact eight-piece Yaya Han presser-foot set includes an invisible-zipper foot, non-stick zigzag foot, hemmer foot, open embroidery foot, gathering foot, edgestitch foot, adjustable binder attachment and ribbon-couching foot. The regular b79 package also lists ten presser-foot soles, and the machine has integrated bernette Dual Feed. A supplied specialty foot does not mean the b79 is a serger or coverstitch machine.

Think in two separate setups

With the embroidery module removed, the b79 works as a computerized sewing machine with a five-inch color touchscreen, drop-in bobbin, 7 mm maximum stitch width, 5 mm maximum stitch length and 230 mm (9 inches) to the right of the needle. The brochure reports 500 sewing stitch patterns including the alphabet. A speed slider sets a lower sewing ceiling than the published 1,000-stitches-per-minute maximum. You can use the supplied foot control, or disconnect it and sew with Start/Stop. The manual also documents needle positioning, a stitch designer and a one-step buttonhole routine that automatically secures and stops. The exact product table groups 17 buttonholes/eyelets together; since that label combines different stitch types, the practical choice is the one-step routine rather than treating 17 as 17 buttonhole styles.

Embroidery requires attaching the separate module, selecting an included hoop and preparing the fabric. The largest supplied hoop is 160 × 260 mm; the medium and small hoops are 120 × 180 mm and 50 × 70 mm. The manufacturer lists a 260 × 160 mm maximum embroidery area and 850 stitches per minute in embroidery mode. A larger requested design cannot be made to fit by adding the foot set. Use the smallest hoop that fits the design, stabilize and hoop the material, then run a test on similar fabric before committing a costume panel or finished garment. The manual describes embroidery through Start/Stop and automatic trimming of connecting stitches and at color transitions; that is a different workflow from pressing the thread-cutter control while sewing.

Plan the design-transfer path and the physical space

The included Creator software and the machine's own screen-based editing give this edition a path for working with original or modified designs, but the reviewed sources do not establish wireless app-to-machine transfer. The brochure lists VP3, VIP, PEC, HUS, DST, EXP, JEF and PES file formats. The exact manual points users with third-party designs toward BERNINA's ART-Link utility and a USB stick. If you already depend on a design library, check the precise computer/software workflow and test a representative file rather than assuming that every format listed will preserve every feature of the design.

Count the module as part of the space and moving routine. The manual gives the sewing body as 509 × 200 × 315 mm and 9.34 kg; with the embroidery module attached, the working dimensions are 710 × 475 × 315 mm, and the module itself is another 3.65 kg. The hoop area and the 230 mm sewing space to the needle are different measurements. The machine is therefore a less compact choice than a sewing-only model, and switching modes means storing and attaching a real hardware module, not just pressing a screen button.

Ownership limits and the right alternatives

The manual recommends matching stabilizer, needle and thread to the fabric and embroidery design, and testing the design on the actual material. Cleaning intervals depend on the fabrics and threads used; the machine gives a cleaning reminder at 500,000 stitches and a service reminder after four million stitches since service. The manual also specifies periodic needle-bar oiling—every six months if the machine is used frequently—and cleaning beneath the stitch plate and around the hook. These instructions are part of ownership, not an implied service-free promise.

Choose this exact edition when you want a sewing machine and hoop embroidery in one machine and will use the Yaya-associated designs, included Creator software or eight additional feet. In the finder, an embroidery request moves you away from sewing-only machines; the optional Yaya bundle requirement then distinguishes this package from other embroidery combinations. Requiring a 270 mm embroidery layout excludes it: the included large hoop is listed at 260 mm long, and layout-length choices advance in 10 mm increments. A separate Yaya-bundle choice should not override that physical limit.

If those package extras are not important, compare the standard b79's own included list rather than assuming it shares the Yaya set. If you specifically want another themed library, the bernette 79 Harry Potter edition is a distinct model listing with a different built-in collection. For general sewing without a hoop module, the sewing-only bernette 38 avoids this embroidery setup. The bernette 59 is a separate comparison if its documented wireless app transfer is a requirement. Confirm the exact edition, software and accessory contents with the seller before purchase.

Key details at a glance

Motor and stitch controlsComputerized five-inch color touchscreen with separate speed control, Start/Stop button, needle up/down and foot-control options. The Yaya edition retains the b79's separate sewing and embroidery modes.
Stitch choices and limitsThe Yaya Han brochure's function table lists 500 sewing stitch patterns including alphabet; the exact current page lists 500 sewing stitches and the manual lists three sewing alphabets. The brochure lists 276 embroidery designs, seven embroidery alphabets and 68 Yaya-associated motifs, including four designed by Yaya Han. Maximum stitch width is 7 mm and length is 5 mm; stitch, needle and presser-foot restrictions remain relevant.
Buttonhole routineThe exact product table groups 17 entries as Buttonholes/Eyelets; the manual separately enumerates buttonhole patterns, two eyelets and a button-sew-on program. Keep any headline repertoire count unresolved rather than treating the combined table as 17 distinct buttonhole styles. The manual documents a one-step buttonhole that secures and stops.
Working space and size limitsManufacturer technical data specifies 230 mm (9 inches) to the right of the needle and embroidery area of 260 × 160 mm. These are different dimensions. With module attached, working dimensions are 710 × 475 × 315 mm versus the sewing body at 509 × 200 × 315 mm.
Supplied tools and fabric supportThe exact U.S. page and edition brochure list ten standard presser-foot soles plus eight additional feet in the Yaya Han set, the embroidery module, S/M/L hoops, foot control and slide-on table. The included hoops are 50 × 70, 120 × 180 and 160 × 260 mm. Integrated bernette Dual Feed is not a detachable walking foot. Check the exact retail seller's edition and included package.
Needle setups, cutting and memoryUse the sewing body with the embroidery module removed for ordinary work; attach the module and a selected hoop for embroidery. The 3.65 kg module is separate. The manufacturer documents USB transfer and the manual recommends preparing third-party files using free ART-Link; the reviewed exact sources do not establish an app/Wi-Fi transfer. Stabilizer, needle and thread should match fabric/design, and the manual recommends test embroidery on the actual material.
Presser-foot pressureThe exact edition's product page and manual document adjustable presser-foot pressure. It is a fabric-feed control and should not be confused with upper-thread tension.
Cleaning and lubricationThe exact manual says cleaning intervals depend on fabric and thread, advises a cleaning reminder after 500,000 stitches and service after four million stitches since a service, and says frequent use calls for needle-bar oiling every six months. Follow its separate cleaning and lubrication instructions; reminders do not replace routine care.

Use the exact model’s instructions for operating limits, supplied equipment and version differences.
